Dustin Poirier Says Daniel Cormier Could Take Dana White’s Place at UFC

The UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier believes that former UFC champion Daniel Cormier could make a suitable replacement for president Dana White. He also revealed his relationship with the Kingpin.

‘The Diamond’ will soon enter the octagon for one of the biggest fights of his career. Ahead of the fight, Poirier appeared in an interview with Patrick Bet-David. During the interview, he talked about his relationship with Dana White and few other important things.

While talking about White, the 32-year-old said, “He’s honest like that. If you go out there, leave it all out there, don’t play it safe, he’ll bring you back. He’s a pretty cut-dry, honest guy when it comes to that type of stuff. I haven’t (spent) a whole lot of time with him.”

“I’ve gone to Vegas a few times and cut some deals where we had to sit down with the lawyers and stuff like that. Other times, it’s just been at events, behind the scenes, quick chats. But he’s honest in person.”

When asked about who he thinks could replace White if he ever retires, ‘The Diamond’ had a very fine answer. He said, “That’s a tough spot to fill. I’m not sure. I think Daniel Cormier maybe? Maybe somebody who’s been in combat sports. I don’t know if he knows a whole lot about the business side, but I think he would be a great face of a company.”

Dustin Poirier has an impressive professional fighting career under his name. And while he is a former interim champion, he is yet to lay his hands on the lightweight gold. Fortunately, Poirier might achieve his dream of becoming a champion at UFC 269.

Dustin Poirier: Quest for the UFC Gold

‘The Diamond’ is one of the best lightweight fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He has an impressive professional record of 28-6 under his name. The 32-year-old has defeated many big names in the promotion like Conor McGregor, Max Holloway, and Justin Gaethje. However, he is yet to be crowned the lightweight champion.

Poirier was on an amazing three-fight unbeaten streak when he first earned his UFC interim lightweight belt at UFC 236. Later, he fought against the lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242.

Unfortunately, Poirier faced a devastating setback in his lightweight title bout. After a loss in the hard-earned title shot, Poirier’s dream of becoming the UFC champion was shattered. However, he didn’t give up and was determined to earn the 170lbs gold strap.

The 32-year-old quickly bounced back in the win column with a win in 2020. He also defeated the former two-division champion Conor McGregor twice in 2021. With a three-fight win streak, Poirier has earned himself a second lightweight title shot. He is now set to take on the champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 269 on 11 December 2021.
