Chicago Fall Tennis Classic Final: Garbine Muguruza vs Ons Jabeur Preview; Head-To-Head and Prediction

The race to the WTA finals in Guadalajara is slowly turning out be interesting with multiple players eyeing for a place in the final eight by the end of this season. While Ashleigh Barty, Aryna Sabalenka, and Barbora Krejcikova have already qualified for the finals, other top-tier stars like Garbine Muguruza, Iga Swiatek, Karolina Pliskova, and Ons Jabeur are fighting for the remaining places.

Two such players will be facing off against each other in the finals of WTA Chicago Fall Tennis Classic tomorrow. Tunisian player Ons Jabeur will face former Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza.

Chicago Fall Tennis Classic: Garbine Muguruza vs Ons Jabeur Head-to-Head

The duo recently met at the third-round of Wimbledon Championships, where Jabeur outlasted the Spaniard in three sets. It was an engaging battle of sorts between two diverse players and the Chicago final could likely become one of the most entertaining matches of the year.

Before the third-round at SW19, both Muguruza and Jabeur met in the second round at Hobart International, where Muguruza defeated the Tunisian in three sets. Both the matches went the distance and the same can be expected in tomorrow’s final as well.

Looking at individual performances this year, Muguruza won the Dubai Open earlier this year after defeating Barbora Krejcikova in the final. Since that victory, the Spaniard has been making her way into the ’round of 16′ at several tournaments but couldn’t manage to go beyond that stage.

At the on-going Chicago event, Muguruza was given a couple of walkovers by Victoria Azarenka and Marketa Vondrousova. With these two instances, the Spaniard’s run to the final has become a bit easier in comparison with Ons Jabeur.

Coming to the Tunisian, this season has been excellent for her as she made huge progress and attained her best-ever ranking. Jabeur also won the Birmingham Classic event and made it to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for the first time.

Ons Jabeur had to defeat the likes of Jessica Pegula and Elina Svitolina in Chicago to reach the finals. During the semi-final matchup, her opponent Elena Rybakina retired mid-way citing an injury and allowed the Tunisian to reach the finals.

Muguruza and Jabeur are currently at 8th and 9th positions in WTA race to Finals in Guadalajara

Jabeur also talked about her matchup against Muguruza after the semifinals and said that both of them are fighting for a place in WTA Finals in Guadalajara.

Besides their tied head-to-head record, it will be Jabeur who enters the match as a favorite considering her commanding performance over Muguruza in Wimbledon. But, the Spaniard’s defense game is top-notch and it can question Jabeur’s aggressive approach on-court.

Irrespective of the intensity of the event, it’s safe to say that Ons Jabeur will go for her shots against any opponent and the same could happen tomorrow against Muguruza. On the other hand, the Spaniard might have to figure out a way to mix her defense and offense as it would be essential to win shorter rallies against Jabeur.

Prediction: Ons Jabeur to win in three sets.
