“Really Happy About the Opportunity”: Clara Tauson Reveals Her Experience of Playing Against Ashleigh Barty at USO 2021

World No.1 Ashleigh Barty advanced to the third round of the US Open 2021. The Australian player crushed Denmark’s Clara Tauson in straight sets to register her second win at the Grand Slam. The final scoreline of the match was 6-1, 7-5.

Ashleigh Barty enjoyed a whopping 82% win percentage on her first serve. However, she would be upset with break-point conversion as she managed to capitalise on only 5 out of 19 break-points during the match.

In the post-match interview, Clara Tauson shared an interesting anecdote. She revealed that she used to sarcastically say to her coach that she would face Barty at the US open 2021. Intriguingly, her words came true.

‘I’ve been joking with my coach for the last 3 weeks, when we’ve been here in the States, that I was going to play her in the US Open,” said Tauson in the interview.

It was definitely a big moment for the 18-year-old Tauson to face Barty at a Grand Slam. Even though she tried to give some really tough competition to Barty, the Australian clearly emerged out as the better player.

“Really happy about the opportunity”- Clara Tauson on facing Ashleigh Barty

Tauson explained that she is really happy to play against the World No.1 player. It was as if she was waiting for this opportunity and it finally knocked her door at the US Open 2021.

“I’m obviously really happy about the opportunity,” added the Danish player.

Ashleigh Barty will now advance to the third round of the US Open 2021. Fans have huge expectations from and want her to lift her maiden US Open title in New York this year. Will she be able to end the year as the World No.1 player yet again?
