“I Kind of Laughed”: Katie Ledecky Rubbishes Retirement Talk Ahead of Paris Olympics 2024

Katie Ledecky became one of the most decorated American female swimmers at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Appearing in her third mega-quadrennial games, Katie took her tally to ten Olympic medals. Notably, seven out of those astonishing 10 are gold medals.

At just 24, Katie shocked the world with her remarkable performance. However, Ledecky was surprised to hear questions about her retirement being raised, despite her notable success in Tokyo.

All set for Paris Olympics 2024

Katie competed at her maiden Olympics back in 2012 in London. Notably, the 15-year-old  Olympic debutant soon rose to fame as she clinched the gold medal in the 800m race. At her second Olympic Games in Rio, 2016, she clinched four gold and one silver medal, establishing herself as one of the greatest swimmers to have ever dived.

Hence, ahead of her appearance in Tokyo, she was the favorite for a podium finish, and also to defend her titles. Rightly so, Katie did not disappoint, as she produced a series of terrific performances, securing four medals this time around.

However, she was shocked to see rumors of retirement on the rise, despite her glorious campaign. Hence, Katie explained how appearing at the Paris Olympics 2024 is her main goal right now. She even hinted at representing her country at the 2028 Summer Games, but surely, it is too soon for her to commit.

Katie said, “I kind of laughed at the retirement thing today because I was surprised that that word even came up because I think I’ve been pretty clear that 2024 is in the picture for me. I’d bring 2028 up but I want to make it clear that I’m not promising anything.”

Where is Katie Ledecky now?

After a victorious Tokyo Olympics 2020, Ledecky is adamant to start her preparations for Paris Olympics 2024. Hence, she has shifted her training base to the University of Florida to begin her training.

She will train with famous coach Anthony Nesty, who was previously coach to double Olympic gold medalist, Bobby Finke. Notably, she has also signed up as the volunteer swim coach for the Florida Gators program.

With the rise in her performance graph at the Olympics over the year, Katie will again be the favorite to clinch medals for America at Paris Olympics 2024. What do you think of Katie’s future in the sport?
