NBA Free Agency: Is Chris Paul leaving the Suns? Major Update on His Future

NBA Free Agency is one of the most entertaining off-the-court stretches in the league’s annual cycle. While this group of free agents does not rival those of past seasons, there are several big-time names on the docket. One such name, who recently opted out of his player option, is Chris Paul.

Following his first finals run with Phoenix and Devin Booker this season, all signs indicate CP3 will remain in the valley for the near future. Paul was sensational for the Suns this season, leading from the front as they went through the gears in the playoffs. And even though they fell agonisingly short in the Finals, CP3 may take inspiration from Giannis, who paved the way for winning without superteams.

Chris Paul – the prize this free agency?

Following a flameout in the Finals, there were many questions looming over Chris Paul’s tenure in the valley. Paul opted out of a whooping 44-million $ player-option, as he chases a longer contract and financial security in 2021.

In fact, NBA insiders have reported rumblings from within the Phoenix camp about locking Paul up for a 4-yr, 100-million $ deal. While Phoenix is the only team who can offer up the deal with future bird rights in play, this could also be a motivated move to pair Booker with superstar talent in his prime.

Even at 36 years old heading into his 17th season, floor general Chris Paul was sensational in the 2021 playoffs, averaging 19.2/8.6 while shooting at 49.7% from the field and 44% from 3. The Point God’s experience finally came to his aid in an injury ridden post season, as he secured his 1st trip to the finals via a 41-pt virtuoso in a WCF closeout.

Could Paul make it back to back Finals in his stint with Phoenix? Or is this a model that won’t be so successful in the coming season? What do you see happening in 2021-22?
