Tennis fans were loving life as Rafael Nadal returned to the court in splendid style. After missing out on the 2021 Wimbledon Championship and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he brought ease to fans with a remarkable appearance at Washington based Citi Open. However, his dream return didn’t last long as the former World No. 1 was knocked out in the third round of the competition.
Regardless of the disappointing result, Rafa now looks forward to his appearance at the ATP Toronto Masters.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion faced a minor setback on his return to the court. With amazing grit and determination, he beat America’s Jack Sock in a thrilling encounter; however, he couldn’t replicate the same against Lloyd Harris, as his foot injury got the better of him. Now, a week away from his appearance in Toronto, Spain’s goliath is feeling positive and ready to bag another title to his name.
“Very good memories from this place”- Rafael Nadal
With full focus on the upcoming event, Nadal admits to having a wonderful history at the Canada-based event. Not long ago, he won his 80th ATP title there, beating his new World No. 3 successor, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Speaking of the same, he said, “Yeah, I enjoyed a lot playing here in Canada. I had a lot of success, but during the same time, I enjoyed outside the court, visiting the places. I always have very good memories from this place.”
Naturally, with his caliber and greatness, fans always want to know more; notably, his appearance at the upcoming events. However, taking one day at a time, Nadal is placing full focus on the courts of Toronto.
He said, “I don’t know, I can’t tell you now, I’m just going day by day. My idea is to play Washington, then here, and let’s see what is going on. It’s not about matches and results, it’s more about my personal feelings.”
“So let’s see, I am just focused on Toronto now, and then let’s see if I can play a good event here and find the finish that I want and be ready for what’s coming later.”

It’s good to be back
Rafael Nadal was a treat to watch at the Citi Open as he put on a show, doing vintage Rafa things. Clearly, he was enjoying his first appearance in Washington.
“Yeah, good, great experience. I enjoyed the tournament, I enjoyed the city. Have been a great week, even if the result was not what I wanted. I really had fun to visit a new place, to play a new tournament, the support of the people was huge. Yeah, good memories from there.”
Although, the limelight was stolen by a daunting foot injury that gave rise to concerns of a withdrawal. However, as he marches on forward, anxious fans are sure to enjoy his emphatic display but will have one eye on the foot. A title would be the ideal way to mark his return, but arguably, his comeback means just about everything for every tennis fan.
