Tennis action continues, despite an enthralling end to the Cincinnati Open. Treated to some breathtaking action, fans now look forward to the forthcoming US Open, hungry for more. The battle for the women’s singles title in New York is hotly contested. However, former Wimbledon winner, Marion Bartoli is certain of Naomi Osaka claiming another title in the near future.
Naomi Osaka has been at the heart of the headlines, ever since her dramatic but brave move at the 2021 French Open. Despite playing in the form of her life, Naomi pulled out of the competition mid-way, citing mental health concerns. She made an eventual return, 2 months later, but has failed to register a noteworthy outing since.
Hence, fans wonder if the 23-year-old’s career has gone off the rails. Coming to her aid, retired French International, Marion Bartoli defended the young champion, assuring fans and doubters of the success to come for Naomi.
“She is becoming a global superstar”- Marion Bartoli
Naomi awaits her fairytale return to the court. No doubt, with her stature and immense fan following, her comeback itself was the highlight. But fans are yet to see her record a title-winning performance. Although just 23, the Japanese sensation is a global star, a budding businesswoman, and an icon for many. However, like Naomi, many believe that world happenings and her being the center of world news too, both affect her on-court performance negatively.
Opening up on the same, Marion feels it’s the outpouring success that overwhelms the star often. She said, “I think it’s a problem when you have so much success, so early. You are used to success. Success is your fuel, and that’s what drives you every single day, and especially for her.”
“She’s just becoming a global superstar, but when she’ll have a defeat in sort of regular tournaments, you take it differently. Just because all of a sudden, it puts down a lot more, than what normally a tennis match loss should put you down.”
However, she explains how Naomi needs to cope up with the loss, not focusing much on the defeat but on rather what’s to come ahead. “For her, it’s just a matter of trying to figure a way out for her to not get so upset about a defeat and being able to bounce back. Move onto the next tournaments, working a bit more on her game,” Marion said.

Naomi Osaka for the win
Naomi represented Japan at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. However, she failed to put on a medal-winning performance and went home empty-handed. Regardless, as questions over her career rise, Marion backs the World No. 2 for a bright future ahead. She said, “She’s onto win absolutely more grand slams. She can get to 8 or 10 grand slams I believe. She will come back stronger, I have no question about this.”
Despite Naomi’s recent run of form, she remains a favorite to defend her title at the upcoming US Open. Speculations over her future remain, but she maintains her focus on increasing her Grand Slam tally, or so fans hope. Can Naomi return to the glory days or has early success spiraled her career off the rails?
