Lewis Hamilton Reveals His Sad ‘Battle’ With Health After ‘Dizziness’ at Hungarian GP

The Hungaroring is infamous for the physical toll it takes on the drivers. Today, there was the added pressure of an atrocious race start, and all eyes were on the championship protagonists after a disputed race at Silverstone. Starting at the bottom, Lewis Hamilton had quite a climb ahead of him.

After a tough battle, Hamilton finished the race standing third on the podium. However, more than joy, there was fatigue strewn across the driver’s face.

Fans were soon worried about Hamilton as he could barely stand on the podium during the champagne festivities. Lewis looked ill as he dragged himself on the stage; his body language showed he had reached his limit. It was later revealed that Hamilton was taken to his team doctor. He complained of “fatigue and mild dizziness.”

At first, it was unsure if Hamilton would make it to the post-race press conference. He showed up, though, and clarified his physical state. He said, “I’m OK. Had really big dizziness and everything got a bit blurry in the podium.”

The Mercedes driver had a challenging day on the track as he fought from last to the podium. This was rewarded with a well-deserved podium.

A taxing day at the office for Lewis Hamilton

Today’s race at Budapest only shows how hard Hamilton works towards points. After the lone restart, Hamilton was asked to box while the rest of the grid began their race. This put him at the bottom of the ladder, and Hamilton’s miraculous climb to the top only shows that it’s no joke to be the reigning champion.

Safe to say, the Briton soared through the track after that. It was Hammertime for the seven-time world champion, who overtook driver after driver, fighting for positions.

After an excruciating battle with Fernando Alonso, the gates to the podium were finally open, and Hamilton overtook Sainz for P3. A fast car paired with one of the best drivers on the grid; the top finish was inevitable for Hamilton.

However, this came at the price of his health. Hamilton climbed out of his car looking severely dehydrated and sick. A slow walk to the podium, followed by an unenthusiastic champagne celebration, proved there was something wrong.

He later revealed his tussle with long COVID, saying, “I’ve been fighting all year really with staying healthy after what happened at the end of last year and it’s still, it’s a battle.

“I think [the effects of covid are] lingering. I remember the effects of when I had it and training has been different since then. The level of fatigue you get is different and it’s a real challenge.”

Despite his health issues, Hamilton raced his heart out today. Fortunately, he is headed to a relaxing summer break as the leader of the drivers’ championship. Hopefully, the driver feels better just in time for the next race at Spa, where it all begins again.
