“I Pushed Too Hard and Lost the Vision Completely” – Michael Bisping Has Advise for Errol Spence Jr. Following His Retinal Injury

The WBC and IBF welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr., was supposed to defend his titles against the Filipino pride Manny Pacquiao on August 21, 2021. However, he had to pull out after suffering a retinal tear to his left eye. Following this massive news, the former UFC middleweight champion, Michael Bisping, shared some advice for the boxing champion.

After suffering this injury, the Doctor’s advised Spence Jr. to walk away from the fight. However, Pacquiao will still appear on the date and will reportedly take on WBA (Super) welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas.

On August 10, the multi-award-winning broadcaster, Adam Catterall, shared this heartbreaking news on Twitter. That is when it became public knowledge.

Following this, Bisping replied to Catterall’s Tweet, giving some advice to Spence Jr. about his retinal eye injury. Bisping said, “He has to listen to the doctors 100 percent for a full recovery. I pushed too hard to soon and lost the vision completely”.

Michael Bisping is the right person to advise Errol Spence Jr. on his eye injury.

In his UFC career, Bisping fought most of his prime with no vision in his right eye. He suffered his eye injury after his fight with Vitor Belfort, who was using testosterone replacement therapy. As a result, he was a dangerous competitor.

Bisping vs. Belfort took place back in January 2013. In this bout, Belfort landed several vicious strikes and ended up winning the bout via TKO in the second round. Taking those hard kicks and punches left Bisping with a detached retina. Bisping did return after this injury. However, he returned with no eyesight in his one eye.

Despite having one eye, ‘The Count’ somehow made it through medical and was cleared for fighting. Moreover, he went on to claim the UFC middleweight championship title by defeating Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 on June 4, 2016.

He also holds notable victories over Anderson Silva, Dan Henderson, and more, while having only one eye. ‘The Count’ ended his career in 2018 after a bout with Kelvin Gastelum that ended in him losing via KO in the first round.
