The Banana boat crew is a hypothetical team of four NBA players: LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Paul. It was formed in 2015 when the four players went on a vacation. A picture of LeBron James, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, and Wade’s wife riding a banana boat surfaced on social media and became a talking point for fans around the world. Carmelo Anthony has revealed how the crew originated.

The four players have had a good bonding off-court for a long time now. Carmelo Anthony wasn’t in the picture, but he became a part of the ‘Banana Boat crew’ regardless. The four players have also teamed up on-court. They were part of the US Basketball Team that won the gold at the 2008 Olympics.

Carmelo Anthony reveals how the ‘Banana Boat crew’ originated

Carmelo Anthony wasn’t a part of the famous picture. But he became a part of the crew despite not being on the boat. In the 100th Episode of Showtime Basketball, Carmelo revealed the origin of the ‘Banana Boat crew’.

“We were on a vacation,” Carmelo said.

“As I’m on a tinder going to the yacht, I see them on a banana boat,” he continued. Next day, the picture is everywhere of the Banana boat crew.”

The group became famous after the picture went viral. Besides that, there were rumors that the four players are planning on playing together in the NBA. However, they couldn’t. And it won’t be possible now, as Dwyane Wade has retired from professional basketball. But LeBron has played with Wade at Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017.

Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony got united at Houston Rockets in 2018. However, Carmelo had a short stint at the Rockets but the duo played with each other.
