Victim's extraordinary reaction to 'Hopoate' attack

Sam Kasiano is set to make an extraordinary plea to the English league judiciary to go easy on ex-Eels forward Kenny Edwards for sticking his finger up the former Bulldogs forward's backside last weekend.

Kasiano made an on-field complaint about the incident, with Edwards facing a ban of at least eight weeks if found guilty.

But speaking exclusively to Wide World of Sports, Kasiano said he felt no malice towards his former teammate at French club Catalans.

"Kenny is at Huddersfield now but we are actually still great mates," Kasiano explained.

"He is a bit of a practical joker and I would say it was just friendly banter that went a little wrong.

"I said something to the ref at the time but I realise now it was just Kenny being Kenny.

"I've written a letter to the judiciary to please go easy on him.

"From my point of view, I'm OK with him and would be happy to share a drink and a laugh tomorrow."

The incident brings back memories of former league bad-boy John Hopoate, who was suspended for 12 weeks for a series of similar incidents involving three Cowboys players in an NRL match in 2001.

Hopoate was playing for Wests Tigers at the time and was suspended for 12 weeks.

Former Eel Edwards was charged with a Grade F charge of 'other contrary behaviour' by the English judiciary and the incident has created unwanted headlines for the game throughout Britain.

Edwards was a talented forward in his time at Parramatta, but his career was always dogged by controversy.
