Number 21 seed, Ons Jabeur defeated Iga Swiatek in the fourth-round at the Wimbledon Championships today. The Tunisian went down in the first set, before displaying her dominance in the next two sets. She went on to defeat the young Polish national 6-7, 6-1, 6-1.
Ons Jabeur became the first Arab woman to reach the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships. Iga Swiatek spoke highly of her fourth-round opponent, as the number seven seed bid adieu to the grass courts.
She’s just playing really intelligent tennis: Iga Swiatek
Iga Swiatek was outplayed in the second and third set by Ons Jabeur. The Tunisian dominated the Polish star on all fronts, as she recorded eight aces in the whole match. She was leading the youngster in all aspects, as she had greater win percentages for her first and second serve. Ons also won all her break points, compared to Swiatek’s three out of a possible 15.
“Ons was really relaxed in the 2nd set, because maybe she felt like she has nothing to lose. She’s playing a great tournament. She’s just playing really intelligent tennis. When she’s on and when she gets the ball right, she can play anything. So it was pretty tough,” said Iga during her post match interview.

Swiatek reflecting on her performance at SW19
Iga Swiatek has had a good run in 2021, with two titles at the Adelaide International and Italian Open. The number seven seed had a fair chance at SW19, after she achieved a quarterfinal finish at the French Open a month ago. However, Iga has a different concept a good tournament, as per her analysis.
“Tennis is a bit frustrating. You can have great week, but then lose and forget that you had a nice tournament. I’m trying not to do that. I’m trying to see how much I learned and how I was feeling even before 1R. Like winning just 1 match was a great achievement for me,” said Iga.
Iga’s run at the Wimbledon Championships has come to an end. However, the Polish will be back at the Tokyo Olympic Games later this month and the US Open in late august. All eyes will be on Ons Jabeur, as she takes Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in the quarterfinals.
