South Sydney are considering stripping former club captain Roy Asotasi of the award that bears his name after he participated in Saturday's controversial freedom march in Sydney.
Asotasi not only attended the illegal rally, he proudly posted a picture of himself and former Bulldogs teammate Ben Roberts at the march on social media.
Asotasi is a Souths legend and role model - the man who led the club to the finals for the first time in over 20 years in 2007 - and the negative attention it has drawn to the club has disappointed officials.
The former Kiwi captain is held in such high esteem at Souths that they have named one of their prized end of season awards - the Roy Asotasi Members' Choice Award - in his honour.
But Asotasi may find himself stripped of the award when Souths hold their next board metting in coming weeks.
He and Roberts also face the prospect of $1000 fines from NSW Police for participating in the march.
BRONCOS COULD LOSE ANOTHER YOUNG GUN
The Broncos are in danger of losing talented utility back Tesi Niu for next season.
A promising 19-year-old who can play fullback, centre or wing, Niu is keen to stay at the Broncos but the club has yet to make him a firm offer.
Rival clubs, meanwhile, are smelling blood in the water and are making the youngster offers to change colours.
Niu is likely to give the Broncos another couple of weeks and if they don't come to the party, he'll sign with one of three Sydney clubs who have shown interest in his services.
KNIGHTS FRONT-ROWER NEARS NEW DEAL
Hard-working prop Josh King is close to securing a new deal at the Knights.
A couple of rival clubs are showing interest in the 26-year-old front-rower but King is settled in Newcastle and likely to sign a new two-year deal.
After injuries saw him play just seven games last season, King has already racked up 13 matches in 2021 and coming from the bench, he has given the Knights plenty of enthusiasm and energy.
MANLY CIRCLING TIGERS LEADING LIGHT
Second-rower Luke Garner has been one of the few consistently good players in the inconsistent Tigers side this season.
But the tall back-rower could be lost back to Manly in 2022.
Garner is close mates with superstar Tom Trbojevic, with the pair playing in the Sea Eagles' Holden Cup team that reached the grand final in 2015.
Garner moved to the Roosters the following year before making his top grade debut at the Tigers in 2018.
He's been a regular in the top grade in recent seasons and is still under contract for next season - but we all know what contracts mean.
