The departure of club captain Sergio Ramos has left a massive void at Real Madrid. After playing for Los Blancos for over 16 years, his contract expired after some controversial negotiations, and the Spanish center-back signed for the French club, Paris Saint Germain.
However, no one at Real Madrid is yet to step up to take their former captain Ramos’s old shirt number. Ramos wore the number four when he arrived at Real Madrid, and the number had a rich history of Spanish center-backs wearing it.
No one wants Ramos' #4. There has been no interest from within the Real Madrid squad to take over the #4 jersey following the departure Sergio. The same thing happened at Euro 2020 with no one in the squad taking his #15 shirt. [@marca] pic.twitter.com/jaqnF2uuqb

Ramos took it from Real Madrid and Spanish legend Fernando Hierro and took the challenge of replacing the void left by his departure. However, no one has stepped up to do the same in the current Real Madrid contingent, according to Marca. New signing David Alaba might be presented as the new number four, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
It is imperative that Madrid have a player with the number four behind their backs as first-team squad members must use numbers between No.1 and No.25 according to the La Liga rules. Madrid has had several problems with their current squad size, and they would want to utilize all of the twenty-five squad numbers available.
There is a lot of respect within the squad for their former club captain, as Ramos led them to one of the most successful periods of the club’s career. Additionally, there’s a lot of added responsibility for anyone who takes the number.
Raphael Varane might follow former defensive partner Sergio Ramos out of Real Madrid.
There is more trouble in the ranks for Madrid as there is a lot of speculation around French defender Raphael Varane’s departure. Manchester United is one of the clubs that are touted to be leading the race for Varane’s signature.
Situation clear on Varane side. He’s ready to accept Manchester United contract proposal until 2026 if the agreement between clubs with Real Madrid will be reached in the next days/weeks. #MUFC
Varane will be respectful with Real – but he’d love a Premier League experience. https://t.co/ltluFh8KSW

Several prominent journalists like Fabrizio Romano have reported that the world cup winner is looking for a new experience. Moreover, Varane is reportedly happy with Manchester United’s contract offer. However, United is yet to reach an agreement with Real Madrid over the transfer fee, but a figure between 50 to 60 million euros should be enough for the Spanish club.
