PlayStation State of Play July Will Not Showcase the Game You’re Expecting

State of Play is Sony’s gaming presentation. Every year at the event, the company showcases the latest PlayStation consoles and games. Following a long summer filled with gaming content such as the Summer Games Fest, E3, and more, players can now look forward to the latest PlayStation content.

Many data-miners predicted that the gaming showcase would take place on July 8th. Today PlayStation confirmed this rumour when they officially announced that State of Play kicks off this Thursday. Furthermore, the blog post reveals that “The show kicks off at 2pm Pacific / 5pm Eastern / 11pm CEST, viewable on Twitch or YouTube.”

We knew that PlayStation had a major announcement in store for us this week. However, fans were disappointed to learn that it was more news surrounding Bethesda’s title Deathloop. The post reads “In this extended gameplay sequence, we’ll see Colt use his abilities to stealthily skulk across rooftops… or go in guns blazing to create a whole lot of mayhem. Lots of options available on Blackreef Island.”

PlayStation promises more news about Deathloop at State of Play

Deathloop follows the story of Colt who is trapped on the island of Blackreef. Colt needs to track down eight different targets to kill on the island. The whole place is stuck in a time loop, so if Colt dies or hits midnight without accomplishing his goal he just respawns. The game is essentially a Hitman-style sandbox puzzle with Dishonored’s combat.

In addition to this, the blog post confirms that “This showcase will not include updates on the next God of War, Horizon Forbidden West or the next generation of PlayStation VR.” This came as a huge blow for fans who are extremely excited about these new PlayStation releases.

Bethesda’s Deathloop is set to release on  September 14, 2021, for the PS5 and PC via Steam and the Bethesda store. Are you excited about PlayStation’s State of Play presentation? Let us know what other big announcements you think the developer will make on Thursday in the comments down below.
