Several players have opted out of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. But golf remains a full go and will have plenty of renowned players. But those traveling look very much excited, and they sense it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Sadly Patrick Reed won’t be a part of the team this year since he failed to qualify.
Even though Patrick Reed isn’t a part of the team, he experienced the Olympic thrill in 2016. He was a member of the Team USA at Rio in 2016. Reed finished T11 in Rio with a solid last round of seven-under 64.
Patrick Reed recalls his most memorable Olympic moment
The most memorable Olympic moment for Patrick Reed has nothing to do with golf. In the pre-round press conference at Rocket Mortgage Classic, a journalist asked him to narrate his favorite Olympic moment, to which he replied:
“I think the most memorable moment at the Olympics was going and watching Phelps swim. We didn’t get to meet any of the athletes while we were there. You have all these different sections, and the golf course and where we were all staying was a lot farther out.”
“So we didn’t stay in the village or anything like that. But coming in and watching Phelps swim and just the dominance he had in the pool and just kind of the zone you could tell he was getting into before the races,” Reed mentioned.
“You had a lot of guys kind of looking around that were racing and stuff like that, and he nonstop was just staring down the lane that he was in, just basically getting in his zone getting ready for the race. Just to see how he went about things was amazing.”
36-year-old Phelps won five gold medals in 2016 and now has a total of 23 gold medals to his name, which is an all-time Olympic record. There are plenty of similarities between him and Tiger Woods. And this explains why Patrick Reed, who idolizes Woods, was drawn towards Phleps that year.
