‘I Just Had a Dream to Become Something’- Francis Ngannou Gives a Heartfelt Speech After Being Honored at the Sports Humanitarian Awards

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is a force to reckon with inside the UFC heavyweight division. His nickname ‘The Predator’ suits him perfectly as he hunts down his opponents effortlessly. Many consider him to be the most fearsome striker in the history of UFC.

He fought in a rematch for the heavyweight title against former champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 260. ‘The Predator’ mercilessly knocked him out in the second round to claim the undisputed gold. Prior to this too, he was on a KO spree as he demolished his opponents in mere seconds on road to title glory.

If we look at his records, he has claimed 16 wins in his career. Out of those, he has scored 12 via KO/TKO and 4 via submissions. None of his winning matches have gone to distance and nobody has ever scored a stoppage win over him.

And for this might and brutal strength, coupled with his achievements in the past year, he was recognized as one of the Mightiest Athletes on Earth at ESPN’s Sports Humanitarian Awards.

Ngannou, who hails from Cameroon, had shared a tweet on the same. He showed his appreciation for the award and wrote, An honor to be recognized as one of @Marvel’s #EarthsMightiestAthletes at @espn’s #SportsHumanitarianAwards. The Predator meets The @theblackpanther. Thank you very much for the award.”

‘The Predator’ also had other things to say. In the latest post shared by ESPN MMA on their Instagram, the heavyweight said, “I just had a dream to become something. That’s the thing about dreaming if you believe in yourself, you can be your own hero or a hero to somebody else.”

In the end, he thanked everyone and said, “Keep dreaming. Keep fighting. Wakanda Forever.”

Francis Ngannou is currently on the sidelines

Ngannou was dealt a shocker of news when UFC put Derrick Lewis vs Ciryl Gane for the interim title at UFC 265. He had a fallout with UFC over the same and both parties exchanged verbal blows over the social media platforms.

The UFC wanted Ngannou to fight as early as possible, but Ngannou made himself unavailable till September. This prompted the UFC to arrange an interim title to the shock and dismay of not just Ngannou, but the entire MMA community.

Only time can tell when we will again see Ngannou entering the octagon. But right now, he could cherish the much-deserved award and continue to inspire people.
