“He Went Away to Reflect for a Bit” – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Provides Update on Marcus Rashford in Manchester United After EURO 2020 Upset

England and Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has been facing a lot of trouble with injuries. He was playing with a back and shoulder injury all through last season. There is a lot of speculation about him getting surgery and the impact it would have on his 2021/22 season.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stressed no decision has yet been taken over whether Marcus Rashford requires an operation. Rashford is currently enjoying a break along with the rest of the English contingent, who reached the final of the UEFA Euro 2020.

When asked by reporters at Pride Park whether he could confirm any plans for Rashford after the 2-1 friendly win over Derby County, Ole said he was not yet in a position to do so. Manchester United’s official page revealed the details, with Adam Marshall reporting on it.

No, we’re looking at the best options,” said the manager. “Of course, he went away just to reflect on it a little bit. We have to take the best course of action for him and the club. We’re still addressing that with the experts.”

Ole also lauded United’s performance in the win. Young stars Tahith Chong and Facundo Pellistri provided the goals as a very young United side got the win over Derby, who have former Manchester United player Wayne Rooney as the manager.

Marcus Rashford and his 2020/21 season by the numbers

While the young forward struggled with injuries, he was still one of United’s best players last season, along with Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes. United lacks cover in attack, and the signing of Jadon Sancho will help Ole Gunnar Solksjaer in his rotation.

Rashford played almost every single game for United as he featured in 37 out of United’s 38 premier league matches. In that run, he provided a great contribution of 11 goals and 11 assists. However, he saved his best for the biggest competition in club football as he scored six goals in six matches, including a hattrick in the UEFA Champions League.

While this was not enough to get United out of the group stages of the UCL, it reminded people of his caliber. United would love to have a fully fit Marcus Rashford with them for next season, and it will be interesting to see whether Rashford decides to have the surgery or not.
