‘He Was Trash’- Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill Provides His Incredibly Candid First Impression of Patrick Mahomes

When Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017, little did anyone know that he would go on to be an MVP, Super Bowl MVP, and Super Bowl winner, all by the age of 25.

Drafted as the 10th overall pick, Mahomes has exceeded expectations as he continues to torch opposition defences with his improvisation skills and pinpoint throwing accuracy.

But not everyone was so sure about the quarterback’s abilities back when he was drafted. In fact, his teammate and All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill had little hope about the quarterback actually succeeding.

Tyreek Hill wasn’t impressed with Patrick Mahomes

Tyreek Hill has grown to become one of the most lethal offensive players in the league alongside Patrick Mahomes. Drafted a year before the quarterback, the wide receiver has enjoyed great success with Mahomes as his quarterback.

Now one part of one of the most dominant offensive wide receiver-quarterback duos in the league, Tyreek Hill though wasn’t quite impressed with what he saw from Patrick Mahomes as a rookie.

Talking to Inside the NFL, Tyreek Hill said he had very little expectations from the quarterback who would eventually go on to replace QB Alex Smith at Kansas City.

“I thought he was trash… I ain’t gonna cap,” said Hill. But boy did Patrick Mahomes go on to prove them wrong. In just his first full season with the franchise, the gunslinger put up a whopping 5,097 passing yards and 50 touchdowns to win the 2018 NFL MVP award.

And in the very next season, a Super Bowl followed. The franchise’s first in 50 years! Now a bonafide NFL superstar, big things are expected from Patrick Mahomes in the years to come.

The highest-paid player in the league, Mahomes is now tied down to a 10-year-long contract with the franchise. And hopefully, for Kansas City Chiefs fans, that should translate to many more Super Bowls.
