The 3M Open is underway at the TPC Twin Cities in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Rickie Fowler had an excellent start to this event as he shot 64 and remained -7 after round one. Fowler made seven birdies and remained bogey-free for the day, and is finally looking like he is getting back in his groove.
Fowler’s putting was the most satisfying aspect in Round 1. Rickie looked like draining every single putt with confidence after ages. He was earlier known for his putting. In fact, in 2017, Fowler was no.1 in strokes gained putting. But then, over the last couple of years, he has had a poor run with his putter.

Recently, PGA Tour came up with a funny and unique stat on Rickie Fowler’s putting. In this season, before wearing the glasses, Rickie Fowler had gained -17.4 strokes putting. However, since he started wearing glasses, his putting has improved drastically, as he has gained 11.78 strokes putting.

Although the above stat is for fun, Rickie Fowler has improved his putting immensely. He finished 60th last year in SG putting, which is astonishing. But after a brilliant opening round at 3M Open, Rickie Fowler shed some light on his putting and said.
“Yeah, it wasn’t that putting wasn’t getting the attention,” Fowler said. “There’s time where you go, kind of get hot and cold and I was in too long of a cold spell, and putting’s something I’ve always been able to rely on. Felt like I was hitting good putts, sometimes it was either a little bit off on the read or speed was a little off.”
“There’s so many variables out there. Trying to eliminate as much as possible and think more about making it and not focusing about too much on line and stuff like that. I’ve been hitting good putts, but it’s nice to see the result of the ball disappearing or not lipping out or sliding on by.”
Now the bigger question remains: can he continue? Well, only time can tell. But as of now, he certainly looks like he has got back in his initial day’s zone and is getting back the confidence in his game.
