Former Brisbane centre Brent Tate has accused his former club of "different messages" in the wake of Matt Lodge's "shambolic" exit from the club.
Lodge and Tevita Pangai jr were told earlier in the week they would be staying at Red Hill despite both players dealing with rumours they were on the way out during the season.
Broncos coach Kevin Walters denied both players were on the move with Pangai now reportedly close to switching to the Tigers and Lodge released to join the Warriors.
Tate made his NRL debut at the club in 2001 and spent seven seasons with the glamour club, going on to represent the Maroons and Australia during his time there.
The Queensland great said the current state of the Broncos is a worry and hopes Ben Ikin's addition can bring some stability to the struggling juggernaut.
"You try not to be critical of Brisbane as a former player but I don't think we can believe anything that's coming out of that place at the moment," Tate told Fox Sports.
"Kevvie came out and said they'd stay and if Matt Lodge goes, honestly, I think clubs are built on trust and at the moment there doesn't seem to be that at that club.
"There's different messages coming from all different people within the ranks and I hope for Matt Lodge's sake he gets to go to a club because he's been so up in the air and I know how difficult that would be for a player who plays on passion and emotion.
"When you're at a club and you're not wanted I think that's really difficult to perform week in and week out.
"For his sake I think it'd be a great move to the Warriors and he can play and be settled at that club. At the moment, to be honest, Brisbane are shambolic.
"There's different messages coming every couple of days and we don't know what is going on. I hope Ben Ikin can put some stability in the club because it's needed. Some of the decisions and messaging that's coming out of the place – it's nothing but shambolic."
The Broncos have several players off contract and Ikin and wasted little time and shaping the club the way he sees fit.
Brisbane added Kurt Capewell to their roster for 2022 on Thursday, while also informing $1m playmaker Anthony Milford he was free to leave.
