Wallabies camp a 'shock to the body'

Brumbies winger Andy Muirhead admits the first week in Wallabies camp has been a "shock to the body", with the 38-man squad undergoing a rigorous training schedule ahead of the upcoming series with France.

The Wallabies are scheduled for a three-Test series against France across an 11-day period starting in Sydney on July 7 at the SCG.

Muirhead, 28, is one of 11 uncapped players to have been named in Wallabies coach Dave Rennie's squad.

While the Wallabies have been at Sanctuary Cove on the Gold Coast for just one week, Muirhead revealed they have been "long days" so far, with the intense training starting to catch up on his body.

"I'd like to say we've taken it easy, but that's not the case," he told Stan Sports' Rugby Heaven.

"Very long days and a lot of running and a lot of contact work, which has been a bit of a shock to the body, to be honest. I'm really looking forward to the weekend coming up.

"Huge days. Usually compiles of a field session in the morning, then we jump up into weights, speed and wrestling in the afternoon.

"It's quite tough at the moment, as you would expect. Looking forward to those game weeks in terms of load-wise, where things to start to go down a bit."

Muirhead said while he's been taking notes through the early days of camp, the squad has been slowly preparing their tactics to counter the kicking game of France

"We know they're a team that loves to kick and put the pressure back onto the other team, so we've done a lot of stuff on our high-ball catch," he added.

"Being new to the camp, I've got to make sure I get my knowledge right on top of that.

"There's a fair bit of stuff and learning over the last week. I will continue to do a fair bit of learning this week as well."
