Press conferences have claimed another victim at Roland-Garros.
Just days after Naomi Osaka's withdrawal came off the back of a media boycott due to mental health reasons, Czech star Petra Kvitova has endured an unlucky exit in Paris.
The 11th seed was forced to pull out of the year's second Grand Slam, due to a mishap at the press conference following her first round win.
In a statement posted to Twitter, the dual Wimbledon champion revealed she had suffered an ankle injury in a fall during her "post-match press requirements".
"It is with great disappointment that I announce my withdrawal from Roland Garros," the 31-year-old said.
"During my post-match press requirements … I fell and hurt my ankle. Unfortunately, after an MRI and much discussion with my team, I have made the tough decision that it would be unwise to play on it.
"It's incredibly bad luck, but I will stay strong and do my best to recover in time for the grass-court season."
The two-time Roland-Garros semi finalist saved a match point in her victory over Belgian qualifier Greet Minnen on Monday (AEST).
Kvitova said she was hoping to be back in time for a tilt at a third Wimbledon title.
"It's incredibly bad luck, but I will stay strong and do my best to recover in time for the grass-court season," she added.
The Czech was due to face Russian Elena Vesnina in the second round. Vesnina won her first grand slam match in three years in the first round after returning to the sport following maternity leave.
