Roosters given all-clear after COVID-19 scare

Tonight's NRL match between Parramatta and the Roosters will go ahead as scheduled, following confirmation all Sydney Roosters players and staff have tested negative to COVID-19.

More than 40 players and staff were tested when a café at Moore Park was listed as an exposure site by NSW Health, after it was visited on Monday by a man who subsequently tested positive to the virus.

The Azure Cafe is close to the Roosters headquarters.

"Following advice from NSW Health that a café within the Entertainment Quarter was listed as a venue alert, Sydney Roosters players and football staff were tested for COVID-19 on Thursday, May 6," the club said in a statement.

"All tests have returned negative results.

"Further, the club is confident that no players or football staff were at the site during the exposure time.

"The Sydney Roosters will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation and be led by the NRL and NSW government."

The Queensland government has so far resisted closing the border to NSW, instead forcing those who've been to exposure sites into quarantine.

It means Magic Round, scheduled for next week at Suncorp Stadium, is still going ahead as planned.

NRL boss Andrew Abdo told the Today show, they'll be keeping a close eye on developments in coming days.

"We've got different scenarios that we're planning for, we'll always watch the data, we'll always listen to the experts, and always act responsibly," Abdo told Today.

"At this stage it's all systems go, we had the Roosters all tested yesterday, 44 players and officials, they're all negative, none of them have been exposed to any other sites that have been named by NSW Health.

"We're taking all the precautions, but we're still on track for Magic Round, we're expecting over 120,000 people to be at Suncorp Stadium over the three days."

The NRL yesterday moved Sydney clubs to level three restrictions, at least in the short-term, which involves temperature checks at grounds and keeping the players away from large gatherings.
