Devin Haney, 25-0, has been on a tear in the lightweight division so far. In just 6 years since he turned pro, ‘The Dream’ put the whole roster on notice with his sheer dominance.
However, it wasn’t an easy road for Haney. He had to outwork several elite boxers, likely Yuriorkis Gamboa, Alfredo Santiago, and many others, on his road to glory.
That said, the 22-year-old is one of the youngest, yet lethal, prospects of the active 135lbs weight class. What’s more, Haney has already been a World Champion.
Although he has held several other championships, a world title win has cemented him as one of the best boxers of the era. Here’s a look at Devin Haney’s world title journey and how he has maintained himself in the mix.

Devin Haney- The World Champion
In his 13th professional bout, Haney challenged Maximino Toala for the WBC Youth World Lightweight title. Despite being just 2 years old in the circuit, Haney had already alarmed fans with his performances.
Therefore, he was rightly adjudged as the favorite over Toala and Haney didn’t depress his fans as he claimed the win and the WBC title via TKO.
It was followed by several more wins, that also fetched him the USBA lightweight title, IBF North American lightweight title, and WBC/WBO/WBO Intercontinental lightweight straps.
Haney also won the WBC Interim lightweight belt in 2019, which is currently held by Ryan Garcia. However, he was fortunate to turn himself into a World Champion in his very next fight.
In an intriguing 12-round collision, Devin Haney vanquished Alfredo Santiago for the WBC strap in November 2019. It was a lopsided showdown and Haney rightly claimed the world title. He has further defended the title successfully in another one-sided dominance against Yuriorkis Gamboa.
While ‘The Dream’ remains an undefeated World Champion, only a few can challenge his stature. He is one of the finest 135 pounders, whom several boxers have avoided for a scrap.
Do you think Devin Haney will go down as a legend of this era?
