Giants cop massive blow with Greene sidelined

GWS Giants star Toby Greene will be sidelined for a month after suffering a shoulder injury on the weekend.

The Giants revealed in a statement on Monday that their stand-in captain played in GWS's defeat to the Richmond Tigers with "a fracture to the greater tuberosity humerus", and confirmed Greene will be out for "around four weeks".

"Toby's as tough as they come and played out the game with the fracture in his shoulder," Giants Head of Medical Cullan Ball said.

"We had it scanned on Sunday which revealed the injury and we expect him to be sidelined for at least a month.

"Knowing Toby, he'll do everything right in his recovery and rehabilitation and he'll be back out on field as soon as possible."

Greene is the latest addition to GWS's already growing injured list of 13 players that includes Phil Davis and captain Stephen Coniglio.

The 27-year-old is a massive loss for the Giants with 22 goals in nine games so far this season.

Harry Perryman was also hurt against Richmond, with a grade one hamstring injury confirmed by scans, keeping him out of action for up to three weeks.

Lachlan Keeffe underwent knee reconstruction surgery in Melbourne last Thursday with his return unknown, but fellow defenders Nick Haynes and Sam Reid are "tests for this week", the club said.

The Giants next face a home game against the West Coast Eagles on Sunday.
