The super-middleweight title unification encounter between Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders certainly lived up to the buzz created around it. On the other hand, Billy Joe Saunders kept a wide stance and utilized full ring space to dodge some of Canelo’s mighty shots. With time, Canelo settled into the rhythm and only got comfortable as the fight moved ahead. Saunders, however, kept Alvarez on his toes and fought with supreme confidence.

Alvarez, though he had a minor disadvantage in reach and height, he didn’t let the same hamper his performance against the rugged Saunders. Out of all the rounds that took place, round 8 turned out to be the best for Canelo as he struck the British boxer with a few cosmic shots.

Succumbing to a few terrifying strikes in round 8, Saunders suffered a swollen eye. Consequently, to save him from further damage, the referee decided to end the bout after round 8’s conclusion.
