AFL repays fans with wanted fixture addition

The wishes of thousands of AFL fans have come true with the governing body locking in a return to Thursday night footy.

The AFL has today released the fixture for Rounds 13, 14 and 15, as part of its 'rolling fixture' model in place for the 2021 season in its combat of COVID-19.

A blockbuster clash between Port Adelaide and Geelong at Adelaide Oval will kick-start at least a three-week block of Thursday night games.

That will be followed by a mouthwatering duel pitting the West Coast Eagles against Richmond at Optus Stadium to get Round 14 underway, before a rematch of last year's preliminary final between Brisbane and Geelong at The Gabba opens Round 15.

Among the other highlights of the three-week fixture reveal is the traditional Queen's Birthday match between Collingwood and Melbourne at the MCG in Round 13, which is held in conjunction with Neale Daniher's Big Freeze event in the fight against motor neuron disease.
