NRL clubs make shock play for Burgess comeback

South Sydney Rabbitohs great Sam Burgess recently rejected comeback offers from two NRL clubs amid rumours he was considering a return to the game, his advisor has revealed.

The 32-year-old, who hasn't played since the 2019 season, was forced to medically retire due to a shoulder injury.

Burgess revealed late last year his body felt "good" after training with the Rabbitohs inside the club's bubble during the COVID-impacted competition in 2020.

But the whispers of a return have now been put to rest, with Burgess' advisor Braith Anasta revealing the 2014 Clive Churchill winner opted to remain retired despite attracting interest from multiple clubs.

"The offers were genuine and Sam gave it some serious thought," Anasta told the Daily Telegraph. "They rang me and they were keen.

"It was definitely a consideration but it's not going to happen. The career's over.

"When he got fit again the juices started flowing."

According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, the Wests Tigers were believed to be one of the team's interested in bringing Burgess back to the NRL.

Had Burgess joined the Tigers, he would've been reunited with his 2014 premiership-winning coach Michael Maguire.
