Former champ's graphic leg break horrifies UFC

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has shattered his right shin in a fight against Uriah Hall at UFC 261 in Jacksonville.

The sickening incident happened during a clash of legs early in the fight. It was an eerie flashback to an incident in which MMA legend Anderson Silva broke his leg in a title bout against Weidman in 2013 at UFC 168.

Weidman was taken from the octagon on a stretcher. A stunned Hall was declared the winner by TKO.

Wide World of Sports had opted not to show footage or still frames of the incident, beyond the image below. It was an extremely graphic injury.

"I got nothing but respect for Chris Weidman. He's truly one of the best," Hall said.

"It is a crazy story that he was the first man I fought that defeated me, that introduced me to fear, I didn't know what fear was. I was scared of wrestling.

"He was the first one that defeated Anderson. I was the last. And it's just crazy how we ended up here again. I wanted to put on a great performance but man, I feel so bad for him. I hope he's OK. I wish his family well if you guys are watching.

"It's the sucky part of this sport. It's the hurt business and believe me, they don't see the fight outside the octagon. I've got nothing bad to say about him and I hope he recovers. Whatever rank I am in the future, if he gets well, I owe him this fight.

"I hope you can come back from it. You're still one of the best, Chris."

The MMA world was horrified by the incident.
