Broncos' Staggs 'on thin ice' after pub incident

Broncos star Kotoni Staggs is reportedly "on very thin ice" with the NRL and isn't a certainty to return to the game once he recovers from an ACL injury.

Staggs has been warned to "clean up" his off-field behaviour or he'll be kicked out of the game after the 22-year-old was embroiled in an off-field incident on Thursday.

The Broncos star allegedly made "unwelcome advances" towards a woman at a Brisbane pub. The NRL is investigating the claim and it's understood to be frustrated by the latest reports.

Staggs had been approached about his behaviour by NRL CEO Andrew Abdo prior to Thursday's incident and was under close watch from the game's governing body.

"It doesn't reflect well on him and I know Andrew Abdo, I've spoken to him today, he's made it very clear that regardless of what happens with his injury and his contract status, he's not going to be allowed to play until he shows Andrew that his behaviour will change," News Corp's Brent Read told Triple M.

"He's on very thin ice with the NRL. They're pretty upset with the way he's behaved in the past three or four months. He has to demonstrate to them that he's changed or they will not let him play.

"I don't know when Kotoni is due back, I think it's in a month or so, he's got a month to show them that he's changed or they won't allow him to play."

Queensland woman pleads guilty to leaking NRL sextape

Staggs is currently sidelined as he recovers from an ACL injury suffered last season and is due back mid-season, but may be forced to undergo education courses to qualify for reinstatement.

It comes just a day after the Gold Coast Titans pulled their offer to Staggs. It's unclear whether the Titans' decision had anything to do with Staggs' off-field behaviour.

The Broncos are now in the box seat to re-sign the local junior.

The NRL star was the victim of a sex-tape scandal last year when a video was distributed without his consent.
