Boxing rogue's ominous warning for Gallen

Paul Gallen proved he's a legitimate fighter against Lucas Browne but has next to no chance against Australian heavyweight champion Justis Huni, according to Michael Zerafa.

The former NRL star's shock first-round victory over former WBA champion Lucas Browne surprised everyone from boxing pundits to bookies. The convincing nature of the win has sparked a push for Gallen to take on the 22-year-old national champion, who has just three professional bouts to his name.

Huni, who will compete at the Tokyo Olympics, is the first Australian to win a title belt, in any division, on debut after he beat Faiga 'Django' Opelu in his first professional bout to claim the Australian heavyweight title in October 2020. Such was Huni's dominance, Opelu's corner threw in the towel in the seventh round.

Huni defeats Opelu by way of TKO in the seventh round.

Gallen and Huni have publicly stated they are both open to a fight which could be worth millions, but Zerafa says it won't be much of a contest despite the recent spike in excitement surrounding Gallen's genuine fighting chops.

"Huni wins by a mile," Zerafa told Wide World of Sports.

"Huni stops him in two rounds. Maybe three – I'll go three. I think he hurts him in the first. He (Gallen) survives the second, Huni stops him in the third."

"Huni is doing great - he's got skills but hasn't been tested, but in saying that he's doing f----n growse.

"It's pretty ridiculous the money they're talking about considering he's only had three fights. And Gallen's not even technically a boxer. But it turns heads.

"I think Huni's boxing IQ will make it easier for him. He knows boxing, he knows movement.

Gal speaks after stunning Browne stoppage

"But Gallen's got a chin on him. He went toe-to-toe with Mark Hunt who can punch. But I think Huni's ability will make him tough to beat."

Zerafa labelled Gallen's victory over Browne a "joke" yet declared the former NSW captain a "legitimate fighter" now.

The Victorian has been a vocal critic of footy players stealing the limelight from career boxers who have to fight for every dollar that comes their way. But Australia's top middleweight has now changed his tune about the former Cronulla captain.

"Credit to Gallen, he's proved he's not just a footy player and he can mix it with actual professional fighters. But in saying that Lucas Browne – I think I could beat him at junior middleweight.

Gallen downs Browne in first round

"He (Gallen) was the smaller guy, less experienced and went out there and made a little bit of a statement.

"He's got balls he's jumping in there and testing himself. But there is levels in this sport. He's proven he's on the lowest level and climbing.

"He's beaten a boxer who was a former world champion whether you think Lucas Browne is good or s--t.

"But mate, rocking to press conferences with goats – that s--t is f----d. That's what happens when Zerafa goes quiet. Boxing turns to s--t."
