'Liability' star could be dropped, legend says

Veteran Roosters enforcer Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is risking a stint in reserve grade if he doesn't fix his "ill-discipline", rugby league great Laurie Daley says.

Waerea-Hargreaves was on edge throughout his side's Friday loss to the Rabbitohs, coughing up two penalties and cutting an agitated figure.

Daley said that Roosters coach Trent Robinson may well decide to give the big Kiwi a wake-up call.

"He's a liability if he plays like that," Daley said on Sky Sports Radio on Monday.

"He doesn't have to prove himself to be tough. We already know that but he's got to be more disciplined. As ill-disciplined as he was on the weekend, I don't think Trent Robinson will put up with it.

"I think Trent will give him a little stint in reserve grade to say, 'Hey mate, that's not the go here at his footy club, so you have to turn it around pretty quickly and we need you on the field because of the loss of Boyd Cordner, there is no Jake Friend, there is no Luke Keary.

"'You are an established front rower, one of the toughest that has played, one of the best forwards we have had. You can't carry on the way you did on the weekend. We need leadership from you and we just didn't get it last weekend'."

Waerea-Hargreaves has played 234 of his 240 NRL games for the Roosters, always treading a fine line with his famed aggression.

The Roosters copped a major reality check from South Sydney, losing 26-16 after starting the season with strong wins over weaker teams.

An ACL injury to Keary and an MCL setback for Lachlan Lam was a nightmare addition to the defeat.

The Roosters face the Warriors on Sunday in Round Four.
