UFC beast blames ref for 'legit scary' KO

Heavyweight Derrick Lewis showed just how dangerous he can be with a brutal knockout over Curtis Blaydes at UFC Vegas 19.

Lewis, who today notched his fourth win in a row, is now tied with Vitor Belfort for the most KOs in UFC history, with 12 to his name.

The 36-year-old knockout artist entered the bout as the big underdog, with the two fighters making it through a fairly even opening round.

The second round early on looked as if it was going to go the way of Blaydes before Lewis landed a massive uppercut which knocked out the No.2 ranked contender at the 1:26 mark.

Lewis after the fight found himself in the firing line of some fans on social media after he landed a further two punches, with Blaydes laying helpess on the floor before referee Herb Dean rushed in to stop the fight.

But Lewis said he had no regrets surrounding the two extra strikes, revealing he simply can't "switch off" until the referee steps in.

"That was the game plan from the start — either the uppercut or the jab," he said after the fight.

"I can't just turn the switch off just like that," Lewis said of the extra shots. "Some fighters can do that, but I can't do that.

"I got to wait until the referee pulls me off, because you never know what happens. Anything could happen. He could turn into the Undertaker and sit straight up, and eat all those shots."

He doubled down on his criticism of the referee's slow response when he later pointed to Blaydes' corner.

"That's Herb Dean's fault," he added.

"His corner, his coaches were talking about, 'that was bulls--t.'

"And I was saying, that's not my fault, that's Herb Dean's fault. I'm going to keep fighting until the referee pulls me off."
