Wade blasted by Test greats over 'reckless' shot

A chorus of Australian ex-players have lashed Matthew Wade after a "reckless" shot brought about his dismissal on day two of the third Test against India.

Coming in after Marnus Labuschagne was dismissed in the opening session, Wade was extremely aggressive during his short innings of 13, before he was caught trying to slog a Ravindra Jadeja delivery down the ground.

The way he gave away his wicket was eerily similar to the first innings at the MCG, where he was caught trying to slog Ravichandran Ashwin, and former Test stars Mark Waugh and Kerry O'Keefe laid into the wicketkeeper-batsman.

"It's a poor dismissal. It's the same as Melbourne. It's a Test match, you don't need to do that," Waugh said on commentary for Fox Cricket.

"It's good to be aggressive but if the ball is not there then you've got to pull out of the shot and knock that down to mid-on for one.

"It was a nothing dismissal, you've got to do better than that, that's a really bad dismissal from Matthew Wade. Just too much pre-meditation for my liking in that batting. You're gifting your wicket."

"There's a difference between being busy and being reckless," O'Keefe added.

"He was busy while he was there, but that was a reckless shot. He advanced before the ball had left Jadeja's hands, he was going at him."

Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting was also unimpressed, given that Wade's dismissal exposed young gun Cameron Green to India's second new ball.

"Matthew Wade needs to have a lot more game awareness," he said on Seven's coverage.

"What he's done by getting out is expose Cameron Green to the new ball, a guy in his third Test, and for mine that is just not thinking enough about the situation of the game."
