Former UFC strawweight champion Miesha Tate knows what it is to be at the highest level in MMA. ‘Cupcake’ as she is fondly known, is now the Vice President of Asian MMA promotion ONE Championship. Miesha Tate excited for Poirier vs McGregor 2

Miesha Tate gave her thoughts on the fight between UFC lightweights Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. She told Helen Yee on the SchmoZone Podcast, “I love that fight! I love it.”

While many fans look at Conor as the favorite, Tate seems to believe more in Dustin Poirier’s abilities. She revealed that she is very excited about the fight but feels that Poirier is the more improved of the two. She makes this judgment based on the fact that McGregor doesn’t fight often. She admitted that ‘The Notorious’ had a great performance against Donald Cerrone. However, she felt that Poirier was on a different level.

The former UFC champion said, “I think he’s come into his man body since he fought Conor the first time and his defense is so much better… He counter punches, he’s got better footwork, he’s got better head movement. He’s just a way better fighter, and he’s willing to get in the firefight, which is risky against Conor.”

Miesha Tate has seen Conor get hurt

Miesha concluded that she sees some holes in Conor’s game that could hand Dustin the win. She concluded, “I think Conor’s got the talent for finding the openings and finding the timing. He hits hard but I’ve seen Conor get rocked too, I saw Conor get a little stunned, a little bit hurt.”

” I don’t know if other people picked up on it but with Khabib I think it was a jab, Khabib hit him with a jab and for a second it was like, ‘oh he didn’t quite have his feet under him’. Conor’s vulnerable to that too, and I could see that fight ending in a knockout one way or the other.”

A pioneer of women’s mixed martial arts, Miesha Tate has competed in MMA since 2006 as an amateur and from 2007 as a pro. She has fought the best of the best such as Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, and Amanda Nunes. ‘Cupcake’ retired in 2016 with a career MMA record of 18-7.

Miesha Tate now oversees talent relations and fighter well being at One Championship.
