Are the Bradley Beal led Washington Wizards Heading Towards Another Miserable Season?

In the 2020 offseason, the Washington Wizards parted ways with their long-term superstar John Wall in hopes of winning some hardware. The organization brought in Russell Westbrook in exchange for Wall. But so far, this new experiment has not been fruitful for them.

After just a single season with the Rockets, Westbrook demanded a trade. Although his request was fulfilled, Westbrook is not playing at the elite level he was expected too.

In their recent fixture against the Celtics, Westbrook went just 4-of-16 from the floor, resulting in an abysmal 25% field goal percentage.

Westbrook is averaging below 20 ppg in the season while not even draining 40% of his shots. As a result, we can see the Wizards struggling to find a solid footing early in the season. They have won only 2 games so far and currently hold the 14th seed in the Eastern Conference.

Bradley Beal – The one-man army for the Washington Wizards

While the Wizards as a whole are unable to win games, Bradley Beal is giving his 100%. Against the Celtics, Beal scored 41 points, but his efforts were once again not enough. Honestly, this has been the story for Beal and the Wizards each year.

He puts astronomical numbers but his stats never translate into wins for the organization. So far, Beal is scoring 35 points a night for his team and yet his team is struggling to win. One might wonder for how long the 27-year-old can keep this up.

The season is still young, and Washington can still turn around their fortunes. But, it is quite clear that they cannot put all the burden on their superstar, Beal.

Can the Wizards make a playoff push?

With the 2020-21 NBA season in full flow, we are starting to get a better picture of the playoff contenders. Unfortunately, as things stand right now, the Wizards are not even close to being in that conversation.

This is probably the best chance the team has to make it to the postseason for the first time in years. Prior to pairing up Beal with Westbrook, their backcourt duo of Wall and Beal never worked. Wall’s lingering injury troubles were a massive reason behind that predicament.

All things considered, this is high time for Washington to make some tough decisions and reevaluate their strategies moving ahead.
