Tragic reason abuse of young NRL star must stop

Manly recruit Jason Saab had planned to share his travel to training with late Sea Eagles player Keith Titmuss, Nine NRL reporter Danny Weidler has revealed.

And for that reason, Weidler wrote in his Sun Herald column, criticism of the former Dragon for switching clubs should stop.

"It's time for the social media trolls to back off Manly recruit Jason Saab. He has been attacked because his reason for wanting out of the Dragons was the long drive from Greystanes to Wollongong," Weidler wrote.

"Many people have pointed out that the trip is pretty long from Greystanes to Narrabeen, too. But Saab had lined up a travel buddy to share the journey to the northern beaches: close mate Keith Titmuss."

Titmuss, 20, died last week after collapsing at a Manly training session. The young forward was well-liked and his passing has devastated the Sea Eagles, in particular young players like Saab and Josh Schuster with whom Titmuss was friends.

Saab, also 20, was finally granted a release by the Dragons last Friday and he has signed a three-year deal with Manly, until the end of 2023.

"Jason is a young, promising player. He has all the attributes to be a successful, consistent NRL player," Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler said.
