Short rushed in for Warner ahead of T20 series

D'Arcy Short has been added to the Australian men's T20 squad, replacing David Warner who injured his groin in last night's second ODI at the SCG.

After a brilliant 77-ball 83 with the bat, Warner's night came to an end early on Sunday when he attempted to field an on-driver from Indian opener Mayank Agarwal.

Warner dived to his left and appeared to strain his right groin and immediately limped off the field in the hands of the trainers.

The star opener will race the clock to be fit in time for the upcoming Test series with India, but in the meantime, Short has been called-in to take up the T20 opening.

David Warner injured

Short has been on stand-by and training with the squad since flying from Perth to New South Wales following the COVID-19 outbreak in Adelaide.

Coach Justin Langer said Warner would use this time to recover while Pat Cummins would have a short break ahead of the Adelaide day-night Test.

"Pat and Davie are critical to our plans for the Test Series," Langer said.

"Davie will work through his injury rehab and in Pat's case it is important all of our players are managed well to keep them mentally and physically fit throughout what is a challenging summer.

"The priority for both is being fully prepared for one of the biggest and most important home Test Series we have played in recent years, especially with World Test Championship points up for grabs."

It is still to be seen who will replace Warner for the final ODI on Wednesday.

MORE TO COME.
