Finance Tycoon won the first race of Melbourne Cup Day, the Darley Maribyrnong Plate, defeating the favourite Ingratiating – who finished second – and Marine One.

The horse was ridden by Luke Nolen and was trained by Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes.
Ingratiating came into the race as the hot favourite and kept face for most of the 1000m, but the blinkers proved to be the tonic for Finance Tycoon, finishing a nose in front.
