Champion jockey stunned after race-winner 'explodes'

Champion jockey Glen Boss has labelled Bivouac one of the best sprinters he's ridden after the four-year-old took out this afternoon's Group One Darley Sprint Classic at Flemington.

On the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival, Boss recorded the 88th Group One victory of his career, winning by nearly four lengths from Nature Strip with Libertini third.

"Bivouac explodes, Bivouac with a powerful run," was the call from Matt Hill as the colt shot clear.

"I've ridden some of the best in Australia and he's right up there with one of the best I've ridden," Boss said.

"You just don't see them do what he just did. I'm very privileged to be sitting on this very good colt.

"He's just a very unqiue invidiviual, he's got a great demeanour, takes everything in his stride. But he's just such an athlete, this horse.

"You just don't see horses win the Darley Classic like that. There's a sprinter of the year right beside him and he went straight past it and said see you later boys."

The senior foreman for the Godolphin stable, Sean Keogh, was full of praise for Bivouac.

"It was a very impressive performance from the horse," he said.

"He's got an extremely good nature, that's why we see him racing as a four year old. When we see him race with pace like that, it's very easy for Glen.

Meanwhile, Sneaky Five has won the Group One Golden Gift at Rosehill. Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, the two-year-old filly won from Cerda, with Mura Mura third.
