Caroline Wilson believes that Rhyce Shaw's coaching future at North Melbourne is over and has tipped an AFL legend to take his place.
Late last week it was announced that Shaw has stepped away from his senior coaching role to deal with personal issues.
"We have been acutely aware of speculation regarding our head coach, but we have not been in a position to say anything as we are respecting the wishes of Rhyce and his family," Kangaroos chairman Ben Buckley said in a statement released on Friday.
"Rhyce has asked for some time and space away from football and we have provided him support during this period.
"We thank the media for their ongoing cooperation and trust they understand we can't make further comment at this time."
On Footy Classified, Wilson said that the club is already looking at Shaw's replacement and in particular former Brisbane Lions coach, and current Port Adelaide assistant, Michael Voss.
"We know they've got a shortlist of coaches they're looking at. I can confirm that Michael Voss will be one that they will talk to," she said.
"It's fascinating that he's managed by Rhyce Shaw's manager."
Wilson said that Shaw "won't coach at North again" but suggested he could have another role at the club when he is ready to return.
"I'm not ruling him out being at the club," she said.
"But I'm not even sure the senior people at the club have spoken to Rhyce. It's a difficult situation and they're very respectful of what he's going through.
"On the club and their direction, I think at some point now Ben Buckley has to stand up. He's got to stand up and talk to people."
There have been reports that Adam Kingsley and Robert Harvey are also candidates for the North Melbourne head coach role.
"It's a disaster for North Melbourne at the moment," Wilson said.
"You only had to see Jack Ziebell get up and be interviewed at the Brownlow and he looked lost to me, talking about positives for the club. The one thing he could talk about was John Blakey coming to the club. A lovely man and club great, but an assistant coach."
Yesterday AFL boss Gillon McLachlan confirmed he had recently checked in with Shaw.
"I have had the right conversations, I won't speak for Rhyce other than he is going better and well," McLachlan said.
"The club are working through that and have had the right discussions.
"Our number one priority is Rhyce's health and wellbeing. I know that he and the people around him know he has the support of the AFL in any way we can to help."
Voss is a three-time AFL Premiership winner with the Brisbane Lions and 1996 Brownlow Medallist. After his playing career he spent several seasons as the head coach at the Lions from 2009-2013. With a 43-65 win-loss record in Brisbane he was shown the door before joining Port Adelaide Power at the end of 2014 as a midfield coach.
Since 2019 Voss has been he senior assistant coach of the Power.
