“That Guy Roger Federer Is So F***king Lucky”- Andy Murray Reminisces their Shanghai Masters Battle

From early 2000 onward, a new era in tennis was born. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray emerged as significant contenders for the major trophies. Needless to say, the rivalries between these players are iconic. One such rivalry is between Roger Federer and Andy Murray.

The memories of the Shanghai Tour of 2012 came to surface after an Instagram video was posted by TennisTV. The video was of Federer claiming a point from Murray in the opening game of the second set.

Federer, trailing the Brit by one set, served to save an early break. Both players put up a brilliant display of rallies, covering all of their halves of the court. However, a dropshot from Federer saw Murray struggle to reach the ball, and the point went to Federer.

Andy Murray considered the Swiss professional lucky and left his comment on the Instagram post. Although he went on to win the clash in straight sets, he couldn’t stop himself from making the comment.

That guy Federer is so f****** lucky,Murray commented.

Andy Murray and his roller coaster ride

The three-time Grand Slam champion was a formidable name on the tennis circuit. His influential tennis made him an integral part of the ‘Big Four’ which had dominated the tennis courts for over a decade.

Murray’s three Grand Slam titles might appear meager in front of the other three. However, he was one of the most talented individuals out there. His failure to win an Australian Open title even after reaching the finals five times kept his trophy count low.

Although, by winning two Wimbledon Championships, Murray became the first Britisher after 1936 to claim the grass-court Grand Slam more than once. His Davis Cup victory in 2015, too, is monumental as Great Britain had claimed the trophy for the first time since 1936.

Moreover, he is also the only player to claim two Olympic Gold medals in men’s singles tennis by winning the honor at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.

These awards and accolades prove significantly that Murray was a world-class player. However, he lost significant titles at the hands of the ‘Big Three.’ Sadly, Murray’s form has suffered drastically since 2016. The former number 1 has been struggling with his hip injury but has shown great fight to keep trying to return to the highest level.

Undergoing a couple of hip surgeries, the former world number 1 spent considerable time outside the court for recovery. Murray has returned to action after a long time, but is far from his form and will take time to regain his lost touch.
