The NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday was a clear indication of things to come on Sunday in the NASCAR Cup Series playoff elimination race. Speaking ahead of Sunday’s race, Denny Hamlin expressed serious concerns about the track conditions and the experience of racing in the rain.
“No one’s prepared to run in puddles on the racetrack. They’ll monitor that and make sure its legit driving conditions,” Hamlin. who is slated to start at pole, said ahead of Sunday’s race.
Hamlin highlighted the issues that the Xfinity drivers faced on Saturday. In some highly chaotic moments, the drivers went through huge puddles on the racetrack, something that left a lot of drivers with a sour taste in their mouths.

“Yesterday the issues were when the caution would fall and the cars would stop going around the racetrack. The rain would pick up and the track would form puddles in certain spots. Big, big puddles,” Hamlin exclaimed.
The Charlotte Roval is already a tough place to race at, add rain, and the Cup Series race promises to be even more chaotic than the Xfinity race.
Hamlin even went as far as raising concerns about the drainage system at the track. “This is not a purpose-built road course. The drainage is not made for it.
“We try to spice up the Charlotte oval by making us go through the infield and through parking lots. But this is a tough place given the conditions.”
Need very less rain, says Hamlin
The driver of the No. 11 car believes that there needs to be very less rain for the race to take place without any trouble. “You’re gonna need just very slight rain for us to be able to run without it being just a complete sh*t show,” Hamlin said.
If it does rain during the race, wet weather tires will be used in a NASCAR Cup Series race for the first time. For Hamlin, it will be important to make the most of the pole positions early, as things could get out of hand at the drop of a hat.
