Manny Robles Says “Everything Went Wrong” With Andy Ruiz Jr.’s Training Camp for Anthony Joshua Rematch

Andy Ruiz Jr. shocked the world when he stopped Anthony Joshua for the unified world titles in their first battle on June 1, 2019. The knockout victory was heard all over the planet as Ruiz Jr. became the first Mexican to become the world heavyweight champion.

However, Joshua reclaimed his titles from Andy Ruiz Jr. in the rematch on December 7. That said, Joshua put a clinic on ‘The Destroyer’ and destroyed him for all the 12 rounds. Since then, Andy Ruiz Jr. hasn’t accepted a fight and has recently changed his trainers too.

The Mexican heavyweight is currently guided by Eddy Reynoso, who also trains world champions like Canelo Alvarez and Ryan Garcia. But it was Manny Robles who trained Ruiz Jr. for the heavyweight gold. Thus, the former coach has recently revealed the mistakes from their second training camp for Joshua.

What was wrong with Andy Ruiz Jr.’s training camp?

On Fred Talks Fighting, Robles said that Andy Ruiz lost his hunger and drive for victory in the second training camp. No wonder it affected the outcome. Joshua is one of the best heavyweights of all time, and one cannot afford to underestimate him.

As per Robles, nothing was right in the second training camp. He said, “Everything went wrong.”

“You have both sides of the coin here… When you have faith in your work, when you believe in yourself, when you put in the work, when you put in the grind, the dedication, the discipline, anything can happen. As long as you believe in yourself, anything can happen.”

While talking about the second fight, Robles claimed it shows what exactly can happen if you get overconfident with a win.

“We were able to shock the world the first time. Unfortunately, the second time around it also shows you what can happen when you reach the mountain top and you lose that focus, you lose that hunger and you lose that drive, that dedication,” said Robles.

Meanwhile, Andy Ruiz Jr. will return to action shortly. Although the date is not yet official, he is expected to face Chris Arreola in early 2021.
