It is said History repeats itself! For Polish tennis professional Iga Swiatek, it is being repeated a bit too fast. The 19-year-old from Poland will be locking horns with Simona Halep in the 4th round of the French Open 2020. The clash between the Romanian and Iga will determine who gets the ticket to the quarter-finals.
The two players will be facing each other for the second time in their careers. Their previous meeting was at the French Open 2019 that too in the fourth round.
Halep squared up Iga in the straight-set match which barely ran for 45 minutes. A year later, these two will be locking their horns once again in the Roland Garros.
Polish star Iga claims that she was new to the circuit and experienced. Certainly, she was stressed, and that led to her downfall. However, this year it won’t be the same as claimed by the Polish professional. After a year in the professional circuit, she has gained some experience and will be trying her best to resist Halep’s aggression.
“Tennis-wise [last year] I wasn’t able to play all the things that we were talking with my team, like about tactics. I wasn’t able to do that. I think this year is going to be different because I’m more experienced. I’m not going to be that stressed.” Iga stated.
Simona Halep is riding her waves of success
Simona Halep is well settled into the fourth round in the French Open 2020. The 2018 French Open champion, Halep is in spectacular form from the start of the tournament. She is yet to lose a set and has given only 12 games away to her opponents.
The 29-year-old Romanian is surely the favorite to win the tie against Iga. However, the Grand Slams are known for its uncertainties. Defeating Eugenie Bouchard, Swiatek will be brimming with confidence. However, records speak about Halep’s dominance over the Polish player.
Simona Halep’s form has been prolific since her return to tennis after the pandemic situation. Winning the Prague Open and the Italian Open, Halep is eyeing the French Open 2020. She is one of the favorites to clinch the title and she’d be looking forward to doing so. Her start has been magnificent, now she only has to keep up the tempo and play her natural game to lift the trophy.
