James Cummings-trained Colette has edged out Icebath in a thrilling photo finish to take out the $7.5 million Golden Eagle.
It was a moment to remember for 25-year-old jockey Koby Jennings who endured arguably his greatest achievement on the track in the wet conditions at Rosehill.
The Chris Waller-trained Funstar came into the race a $4.80 favourite but finished second last, while Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott's Just Thinkin' came last.
"If you told me to look at the photo I couldn't do it," Jennings said.
"Everybody looked at me and said I think you've won. I don't really know how to put it all in."
Cummings revealed after the race that there had been a plan to keep Colette fresh as his lauded his jockey for not losing focus throughout the journey.
"She's a super mare. What a wonderful performance from her to be kept fresh," Cummings said.
"She's ended up finding a way on a wet track that we hoped for. We got the solidly run race we hoped for."
"We had a plan for this spring carnival, we wanted to keep the speed in her legs for the autumn carnival next year and she just freshened-up beautifully from the Epsom.
"Koby kept his head. I just said to him 'listen, let the race unfold from the half-mile as if you're in a mile-and-a-half race and she'll eat up the ground late'.
"He kept his head and she just savaged the line."
