“Was Not Thinking Straight”: Andy Murray Opens up on Social Media Blunder During His Surgery

The past 3-4 years have been tough for Former World No.1 Andy Murray. Multiple hip replacement surgeries had threatened to end his career, but the 2016 Wimbledon champ is back playing at the highest level.

Back in January 2019, Murray had his second hip replacement surgery. After the surgery, Murray had revealed an X-Ray of his hip on Instagram but didn’t realize that he had revealed a little too much as the X-ray also showed his groin. Murray talked about the embarrassing moment in a conversation with Pride Life Magazine.

“Well, I obviously realized quite quickly afterward that it did. I think it was the following morning [after the operation] and I was pretty out of it at the time.”

Andy Murray tells what he learned from the mistake

Murray opened up about the post and gave a valid reason for it. Murray was under medication and probably didn’t think it through, and so he just posted it like that.

“I was taking all kinds of medication, morphine, and everything, and I was obviously not thinking straight or checking too carefully. I’ve never made a mistake like that before. But if people found it funny then it’s OK. I think the lesson to be learned is that if you’ve just come through a major operation, and been given morphine, then you should stay off social media for a while!”

Andy has no regrets regarding the incident and is chill about it. He mentioned that one thing he inferred from this banter was not to use social media when on morphine. Andy Murray hasn’t deleted the Instagram post and takes it as a joke.

Murray recently played the US Open 2020, where he lost in the second round. He has now been given a wildcard into the main draw of the forthcoming French Open 2020. He is ranked 110th in the world and has low expectations with his performance. For the moment, he is happy to simply participate in the elite tournaments. Coming back successfully from a career-threatening surgery is in itself a huge moment to cherish for him and for tennis.
