Running Back Adrian Peterson Signs Short-Term Deal With Detroit Lions

Adrian Peterson arrived in the NFL back in 2007. He was selected by Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2007 NFL draft (seventh overall). Since then, Peterson has been consistently performing in the league while playing for the Vikings, New Orleans Saints, and Arizona Cardinals. During his time in Minnesota, Peterson bagged the 2012 NFL MVP award. He put in 348 carries for 2,097 rushing yards that year. Also, he was also named as the number one player in the NFL Top 100 list in 2013.

He was with Washington Redskins (now Washington Football Team) up until Friday. After he was cut from the roster, Peterson is reportedly on the verge of moving to NFC North side Detroit Lions.

Veteran NFL running back Adrian Peterson joins Detroit Lions

Running back Adrian Peterson is reportedly on the verge of joining the Detroit Lions on a short-term deal. Head coach Matt Patricia is keen to bring in the seasoned pass rusher. The Texas-born veteran was released by Washington on Friday after two seasons in the national capital. The 2012 NFL MVP award winner is entering his 13th season in the league.

Here’s what Peterson had to say about his current condition heading into the 2020 season.

“When you talk about the running back position because they like to kind of put us in this box of four or five years and then, typically, you’re out. To have a successful – what people will look at as successful, seven or eight years in the NFL, why not 15? Why not 18 years? It’s just me playing my role and trying to inspire our next generation,” Peterson told the press last week.

If these reports are indeed true, Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford will receive a boost after Peterson arrives. The Lions are labeled as ‘underdogs’ in the NFC North Division once again. Head coach Matt Patricia will hope that Peterson can come in and help the youngsters on his roster this season.
