“Now It Gets Really Interesting”- Alexander Zverev Reacts to Novak Djokovic’s Disqualification

Novak Djokovic was undoubtedly the heavy favorite to win US Open 2020, especially given the absence of defending champion Rafael Nadal. Unfortunately, Djokovic was disqualified from the tournament for accidentally hitting a line umpire. Alexander Zverev, one of the youngsters looking to make his breakthrough at the Majors, was quick to react to the shocking incident.

Alexander Zverev reacts to the shocking development

Zverev admitted his shock at what transpired with Novak and also expressed his sympathy for the Serb. Moreover, he also realized that things would get ‘interesting’ for the rest of the players now.

“Now I think is the time where it gets really interesting. Yeah. I know who is where in the draw. I know who I can play. I know who the rest of the guys can play. Yeah. We’ll see where we go from here.”

This will surely turn out to be a boon for the next-gen players. For years now they have remained in the shadow of the ‘Big Three’, but now none of the three members can possibly claim the US Open 2020. Moreover, former US Open champion Marin Cilic too exited the tournament yesterday following his loss to Dominic Thiem.

This means we will finally get a new Grand Slam champion on the men’s side this week. Naturally, Sascha is hoping for the best for himself but knows he is far from the only one vying for a Major.

“Right, we will see a new GS-Champion. More young player will see their chance – I’m not the only one. I just hope to start playing my best tennis and try to develop that. And then let’s see.”

Apart from Zverev, Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev and a ton of other players will look to capture one of the four highest honors in the sport.

Pablo Carreno Busta, Novak’s lucky opponent, will now face the winner between David Goffin and Denis Shapovalov. As for Alexander Zverev, he will face the winner between Borna Coric and Jordan Thompson of the USA.
